Covered in Vinyl Cover Charge
& Cover Charges in General
After many inquiries, and considerable thought, I decided it was time to address the subject of cover charges at Carrollton Station in general, and particularly the ticket price of Susan Cowsill's monthly "Covered In Vinyl" Series.
Firstly, we charge a cover on Fridays and Saturdays, nights we have regularly scheduled acts. Except for rare exceptions (Jazzfest), there is no cover on any other night. The money goes directly to the artists, bottome line. The money that we make selling drinks goes to (hopefully) keeping the doors open, which includes updating and maintaining our PA, among other equipment, which allows us to stay competetive with other bars and music venues. Also, we don't "up charge" at the bar on nights we have music. The prices are the same as any other night of the week. We also have a Happy Hour M-F and run drink specials every week night. Secondly, we try to assess a value to every show, based on the popularity of the act, etc. The average cover charge is about $7 and more often than not is probably closer to $5.
Now to "Covered In Vinyl". Yes the
cover charge is higher than what we normally charge. And here's
why. 1) These guys are learning a WHOLE album (that they're
probably going to play once). It's estimated that it takes each
band member up to 40 hours plus to pull this off. That includes
listening to material, individual work and band rehearsals. 2)
Usually to pull these shows off the band is required to HIRE outside
musicians to do the material justice. The "Born To Run Night"
during Jazzfest included 10 people on the stage. 3) The shows are
outstanding. Susan & Co are gifted songwriters, musicians , and
entertainers who can play for hours besides the CIV.
Cover charges are part of live music. Musicians have to get paid, and that's what it comes down to. We're just trying to do the best we can, the best way we know how, given what we are and where we are.
Hope to see y'all down the road. We're open every day; come on by.
Have A Nice Day
